On September 12, 2016, three local organizations received Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) donated by BAE Systems in Endicott as part of its Community Investment program. The three groups were all non-profit organizations in Endicott, NY:
- The Southern Tier Swing Dance Society
- Union Presbyterian Church
- Endicott Performing Arts Center.
BAE Systems made the in-kind donations, providing each organization with an AED. An AED can restart the heart of someone experiencing cardiac arrest. It provides easy-to-understand voice prompts to guide the user.
All three organizations worked with Michael Taylor, who handles Community Outreach as the Deputy Director of Administration and Operations for Union Volunteer Emergency Squad, to obtain American Heart Association CPR/AED training. Mr. Taylor has been instrumental in the HeartSafe Community initiative for the Town of Union.
The HeartSafe Community project aims to increase the odds of surviving cardiac arrest by implementing widespread CPR instruction and public access defibrillator programs. To set up CPR/AED training for your organization, contact Michael Taylor at (607) 754-3414 extension 235.
The AED donations were facilitated by the John Mack Foundation, working to raise awareness of cardiac arrest and donating AEDs throughout our community. John Mack Foundation also awarded an AED to the BC United Soccer Association (Endicott, NY) that day.
The John Mack Foundation honors namesake John Mack, a 17-year old Binghamton High School student who died in 2006 while playing lacrosse at a facility that did not have an AED. For more information or to request an AED for your non-profit organization, visit JohnMackFoundation.org.
